Tax reclaim on foreign divis by cryptogram
I have some shares in a German company and I note that the divis are taxed at 26% at source. Can I reclaim 6& tax to bring them in line with UK divis? They happen to be in an ISA but I don't know whether this is relevant.

Wrong tax code for PAYE by Jake[_6_]
Last year I changed jobs because I found something better and my last company weren't so good on admin. As expected, I didn't receive a P45. So I filled out a P46 form with the much better new employer saying that I didn't have a P45, yes, I already had a previous job in the same tax year, but...

British Land bond offering by fred
Am I missing something here, or is this the worst bond offering ever? Duration 'till 2020 Coupon: 0 to 0.5% !!! Conversion at 2020: at 20-27.5% higher than launch share price. I would have thought that even a blue chip company would have been paying ~2.5% coupon.

Buildings insurance for a block of flats .... by CJB
We are required by our lease to insure our individual flats with RSA. However RSA has told us that of the thousands of blocks of flats that they insure, the buildings insurance is carried by the respective managing agents / freeholders, and the costs are then passed on to leaseholders through the...

UK Gov debt and the gilt market (why do they need it?) by [email protected]
I've been reading: http://www.which.co.uk/money/savings-and-investments/guides/corporate-bonds-and-gilts/how-gilts-and-corporate-bonds-work/ begin quote If the UK government wanted to raise 100m pounds, it would issue one million gilts at the value of 100 each. This is known as the 'nominal...

On a similar note what counts as gifts? Just financial?... Or as occurred to be when battling through my proposed gifts list for 2013 does this cover a gift of built in wardrobes for my lady friend, a trampoline for my granddaughter, refurbishment of my daughters rear garden, buying a new lawnmower...

Children's bank accounts by Andrew Gabriel[_3_]
Looked at children's savings accounts on http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/child-savings-tax-free and was very dissapointed with what's on offer - poor rates or undue restrictions. I know it's not fasionable to be saving nowadays, but I wanted to set up something that would enable a child...

Travel Insurance for the over 65s by [email protected]
What a nightmare. All the insurance companies we have tried wont insure us now that we're over 65. We actually want a multi-trip worldwide policy (sans North America). We used to insure with STA - because we have been on a number of their trips including volunteering at the Elephant Nature Park in...

RPI direction + NS&I by fred
Where is inflation going? Thoughts on this please. I know if we knew the answers to this kind of question, we'd be very rich, but ideas welcome. Late next month I have a maturing NS&I inflation linked bond. It was RPI +1%. I can renew for 3 or 5 years at RPI+0.05% tax free. These were a great...

Why are currency conversion quotes the wrong way round? by Thomas[_6_]
I notice that sites such as Google Finance quote the pound to dollar conversion rates in the form GBP/USD = 1.4784. I would read this as "GBP per USD = 1.4784" or equivalently "1.4784 GBP per USD" which is obviously the wrong way round. When we quote speeds for example we say mph (or m/h) = 50 -...

Cooperative Bank Asking for National Insurance Number After 15 Years by [email protected]
I have received a letter from the Cooperative Bank saying that they have to suspend payments to my ISA unless I provide my National Insurance number. They've only got a dummy number stored. I've had the ISA about fifteen years, so if they needed it, they must have had it all this time. Have they...

Greek bond yields by Jim
I don't understand Greek 10 year bond yields. Last time I looked (about 2 weeks ago) they were ~ 10%. I see a big haircut or total default as a certainty, so why aren't they ~ 90% ? Possible answer: The public do not own Greek govt bonds - only sovereign central banks. No individual or fund in...
